Variety of causes: Many infants have congestion after birth. Your physician can rule out an infection. Infant saline may help relieve congestion. Close observation of growth, feeding pattern and breathing pattern is indicated. A food panel allergy test may be ordered if there is a concern about an allergic reaction. Food allergies often are associated with rash and GI symptoms.

Unlikely: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages & exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke & other irritants aggravate this.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion & runny nose. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment & this will happen less.
