Contagious: Cold sores can be spread by touching cold sores (for instance if person with cold sore touches it with their hand - the virus can be spread further from there), kissing, sharing glasses, silverwear, toothbrushes or other personal items.

Herpes simplex: You may have been infected with this virus earlier in life and you are now seeing a recurrence. Once infected the virus never leaves your body.
