A member asked:

If i mother has chicken pox while pregnant, will that child be immune to chicken pox?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

For the first year.: Babies are born with antibodies to chicken pox that they get from the mother, but only for the first year. At age 1 they are then vaccinated. One caution: if chicken pox occurs during first third of pregnancy, there is a small (2%) risk of congenital chickenpox in the baby, so that risk needs to be discussed with your obstetrician.
