Call a dentist: Acute means critical, and if you have that much pain, you need to be seen immediately. Make the call.

See a dentist ASAP: Regardless of the type of dental infection, it won't go away without treatment and the infection may spread to your jaw, cheeks, sinus and to other areas of your head and neck. A dental abscess is a collection of pus that forms in your teeth or gums as a result of a bacterial infection. Dentist will treat a tooth abscess by draining it and getting rid of the infection. See a dentist ASAP.

Root canal or extrac: Basically, you're describing the same thing. Apical periodontitis is the condition. Acute pulpititis is the cause, and apical abcess is the finding. The tooth needs a root canal or to be removed.
