A member asked:

Im 52, married over 26 years and recently diagnosed with positive hpv , negative pap. i've never had a positive pap. does hpv lie dormant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It can: Unfortunately, if you have never been tested for hpv before, the hpv could have been acquired any time from the first moment you became sexually active until recently. Not all people with hpv will develop cervical cellular abnormalities so your history of normal pap smears does not solve the dilemma. For more information www.Askyourgynecologist.Org.
