Do many parents have a baby or child that had rsv but were not hospitalized for it?

RSV: Yes. The vast majority of infants with RSV can be treated at home. Premature infants, paticularly those born < 32 weekks gestation are a great risk for severe illness requiring hospitalization.

Yes: Since RSV is the main cause of the common cold in season, (>60%) most infants and older kids do well with it. The RSV label became common after simple lab tests were developed to confirm the illness from nasal secretions. A fraction of kids, mostly under 16 lbs can end up with deeper infections and hospital care. Kids will generally get this repeatedly through life,it doesn't stimulate immunity
