What is a borderline chiari?

Something to watch: It means that the cerebellum tonsils are descending but have not gone far enough to meet the criteria for a chiari malformation.

Incidental on MRI: Chiari type i is an incidental finding on an MRI that shows low lying tonsils of the cerebellum. A line can be drawn on the film and the measurement in millimeters of how low the tonsils lie. If just a few mm, it is considered borderline. Most cases are just incidental and are not clinically relevant.
