A member asked:

Prescribed abilify (aripiprazole) as adjunct to prozac. concerned about possibility of developing diabetes. how high is the risk of doing so from taking abilify (aripiprazole)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Less than others: Abilify (aripiprazole) is an antipsychotic medication. It is an approved adjunctive treatment for major depressive disorder. Extended duration use of all antipsychotics can lead to diabetes; however, the risk is relatively lower with Abilify (aripiprazole) as compared to most of the newer antipsychotics. There are many other alternative adjunctive agents that do not carry risk of diabetes.
