Dr. Ivan Ip answered

Rare but...: According to a recent survey, 7% of adult reported prior anaphylactic reaction, with food being responsible for roughly 1/3 of these. So in the grand scheme of things when people eat roughly 3 meals a day, multiple food items per meal, etc, the occurrence is indeed rare. But some patients are more likely to have allergic reactions, plus you have to know yourself and avoid food you are allergic to.
