A member asked:

Do yo get any symptoms of broken heart syndrome or does the heart just stop? and is this because of sudden excessive stress or prolonged stress?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Takotsubo: Takostubo cardiomyopathy or "broken heart" syndrome is a well described sudden weakening of the heart musculature which absolutely can occur in times of sudden or prolonged stress. I have seen this disease present with chest discomfort and signs or symptoms of heart failure. Theoretically it could cause the heart to stop.
