Self-limited: Mesenteric adenitis involves inflammation of lymph nodes in the mesentery of the bowel. It most often is used as a possible diagnosis when acute appendicitis is ruled out. Mild, uncomplicated cases of mesenteric lymphadenitis and those caused by a virus usually go away on their own. If felt related to bacterial infection antibiotics are sometimes used.
