The Aorta: Can often be felt in thin individuals pulsating above the umbilicus, especially when pressing downward with the fingers. That said, this should be no cause for alarm. But, in older individuals, those who are obese, smoke, or have other high "risk factors" for vascular disease, feeling these pulses warrant immediate evaluation by professionals to "rule out" serious problems.
