Growing pain?: Growing pain has been known for a long time, however, it's cause (causes) is still elusive. It is important not to ignore warning signs (of serious conditions) such as joint swelling, limping, and pain persisting into daytime.

Comfort measures: Reassure yourself and your child that night leg pains are usually harmless. Warm compresses, massage, and tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin should help. When there is time, confirm with your child's pediatrician that he is just suffering from growing pains.
