Whenever i climb stairs, i can hear a noise coming from my knees. there's no pain but it's disconcerting. should i be worried?

Knees: Noise can sometimes emanate from movement of joints and usually represent joint fluid moving around. If there is no pain or swelling, then it likely does not indicate anything serious. But to be certain, it would be worthwhile to obtain an x-ray of the knees.
