Infection Signs: Signs of infection include swelling, redness, increased pain, and/or drainage. It is hard to say without examining finger whether its infection vs irritation. If redness is spreading too this can be sign of infection especially if you see red streaks up arm or hand then you should seek advise from your primary care doctor.
