Yes: Pyloric stenosis is hypertrophy of the pyloric muscle. This muscle surrounds the intestine at the outlet of the stomach. The muscle normally controls stomach emptying. As it hypertrophies or thickens, the intestine is compressed and closed. Vomiting results. Surgery can open the muscle and allow normal stomach emptying. Surgery is short and patients go home in 24 hours.
