Stress ; weight: I agree with dr. Seif about stress-related eating, which can contribute to weight gain. I would add that long-term stress can also lead to elevations of cortisol with Insulin resistance -- which can certainly lead to weight gain, especially in the abdomen. This type of fat also is very active metabolically, leading to derangements in the way your body regulates appetite. Diabetes can result too.

Stress increases cortisol levels which can increase the amount of weight around the waistline. Also, most people eat poorly under stress which increases weight. Stress also causes insomnia which often leads to overeating during the day.
