A member asked:

If a child presents with end-of-stream (terminal) gross hematuria, what is the standard workup after an xray shows no stones and urine culture normal?

Dr. James Lin answered

Here's my thought...: How old is the child? Did he have any change in his usual voiding pattern? If everything as reported to be okay, it's most likely, he has non-bacterial self-limiting urethritis so just watch and see. If not going away as expected or recurring, taking a direct look with scope may be helpful, but rarely needed. So, keep in touch with and ask doc timely.
