Symptoms after eat: The usual symptoms of a food allergy are itching, hives, swelling (lip, tongue), throat tightness, nausea, vomiting, asthma or combination of those within minutes to hours of eating peanuts. An allergist can confirm (or help rule out) an allergy through testing (either blood or skin test) and food challenge.

Get tested: Skin tests through an allergist or blood tests are available and advised before you eat any more peanuts.

Immediate reaction: ...involving itching, swelling, nausea, vomiting, hives, wheezing, coughing, dizziness or passing out: this is anaphylaxis and can be life threatening. Skin or blood (RAST) tests can be confirmatory, but sometimes are false positive if not interpreted correctly. Also, if the story is convincing, but the test is negative - don't believe it. See an allergist. I've seen false negatives (mostly RAST).
