Torn from bed: An avulsion injury refers to something being torn away. In the case of a nail avulsion, the nail is torn away from its bed. It's pretty painful!

Total nail removal: Simply put, nail avulsion is removal of a toenail (or fingernail). This may be done by a podiatrist for a fungal nail problem. The toe is anesthetised (numbed up) and the nail is complettely removed. It will grow back unless steps are made to prevent this.
