Yes.: Federal regulations require Methadone clinics to treat only patients who have a history of opiate addiction for at least one year. Criteria to determine addiction, that include symptoms of tolerance and withdrawal, use despite negative consequences, use of greater amounts than intended, giving up important activities to use or obtain the drug, and impairment in occupational and social functioning.
