Yes, to a degree: Weight training is mainly used to build muscle mass and add lean muscle. By burning off calories, you could lose some fat over time. But, losing fat will happen quicker thru a diet plan (low fat, high protein). Don't be surpised if you gain some weight as you add muscle mass, but keep working and your body fat percentage will decrease and this is better for you!
