A member asked:

Why would this inflammation of the heart's lining cause death?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Two common ways: Either due to an accumulation of inflammatory fluid or blood into the pericardial space, causing cardiac tamponade and fatal heart failure, or through an tachyarrhythmia (which can also be provoked by cardiac tamponade) that leads to heart failure and sudden cardiac death.
