You dont: Symptoms of both conditions can mimick each other. Every red eye is not infected and every itchy eye is not allergic. An ophthalmologist can observe paillary/follicular/mucopurulent/toxic/dessicant conditions on the ocular surface to determine your condition. Need an exam.
