History and test: History of smoking is very important. A good physical exam and history is a must. The actual diagnosis is made on the above and simple spirometry. Full pulmonary function test are good as well. COPD is a catch all diagnosis as well. One can have asthma/chronic bronchitis/emphysema and be called copd. Need to follow up with md.
