Various: It could be clear, white, yellow, green, thick, thin. It changes over time. It is commonly more copious in the morning upon awakening.

All different...: Sputum can have many colors and still be ok. The color that is most worrisome is red; this always needs to be evaluated by your doctor. Otherwise, if your sputum changes in color and consistency you need to be seen by your doctor.

Usually white: A bacterial infection may develop if it becomes green or yellow. An antimicrobial may become useful early. If there is blood than a lung doc should be seen asap.
