Underlying cause: The first line is to treat the underlying cause: polycystic ovarian syndrome and congenital adrenal hyperplasia are 2 common disorders that include hirsutism. Idiopathic hirsutism (without underlying cause) is treated with a combined approach, which can include birth control pills, anti-androgenic oral drugs, and sometimes tweezing, shaving or electrolysis.

Hirsutism: Local treatment -- waxing, shaving, laser. Medical evaluation and therapy -- see an endocrinologist.
