It could...: But it won't cure your problem. Speak to your dentist to be sure of exactly what treatment you need. Antibiotics do not treat decayed or abscessed teeth, just the symptoms.

Work?: It might help control an infection, or at least its spread, but it won't resolve or cure the problem that caused it in the first place. You will need definitive treatment by your dentist to do that. See a dentist to find out what's wrong and what treatment is needed.

Amoxicillin: Please don't self treat. Antibiotics, taken in correct dose for full course of treatment will help spread of infection, but will not cure infection within the tooth. Please see Dentist to determine severity of your infection, what specific dental treatment is required, an$ whether antibiotic coverage is advisable to limit spread of infection.
