Study site: Typically, the location, or setting of the study will have a higher population of willing participants of a certain gender, that will participate. Some studies are specifically targeted toward evaluating disease in women, or the specific disease may be more common in women. Studies from Veteran's Administration, may be more men. Women often live longer on average.
