What does it mean if my knee cap is always shifting?

Probably normal: Kneecaps do have some laxity and movement normally. If it seems to goes too far to one side, or has trouble getting back in line, you should work with an orthopedic doctor and may need to do some strengthening of your thigh muscles.

Patellar shift: Consider patellofemoral syndrome or VMO weakness.
