A member asked:

The school said no to an iep, can we get a 504 plan?

Depends: It depends on the reason why your child needs help in school and what state you live in. Each state has its own requirements for qualification. Iep and 504 are different and exclusion or inclusion from one does not necessarily affect the other.

Possibly: Children with certain learning disabilities should qualify for iep's but children with some other conditions such as adhd develop rights for accomodations under a 504 plan. Ld children can qualify for special curriculum - while 504 allows for accomodations. See: http://cpancf.Com/articles_files/accommodatingchildrensspecialneeds.Asp.
