A member asked:

What is the relationship between dystonia and epilepsy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dystonia: On the surface of the issue, no relation. Dystonia is an involuntary movement disorder arising from problems in deep brain nuclei. Epilepsy is an uncontrolled discharge of cortical (surface) neurons, sometimes resulting in abnormal and involuntary movements. There is an interesting debate on the question of whether dystonia might represent an unusual form of epilepsy in deep brain nuclei.
