Depends on age: For children, prescribed medications are usually based on their weight. It's also a way to screen for growth problems/obesity. For adults, it is to screen for underweight state/obesity. Also to monitor drastic changes in weight which can happen with thyroid diseases, stomach issues and malignancy.
