Tough question: In order to answer that, one would have to design questions to get inside of the heads of male and female ASD patients to determine what it is that they experience and then compare to see what the differences may be.

Quite often, they do: Just as many girls with adhd are diagnosed later than boys because they tend to have the primarily inattentive type, girls with asperger's may be considered shy and studious. However, older girls and women may themselves notice their social skills deficits beginning in adolescence and become depressed because they can't figure out how to make and keep friends/ relationships like everyone else.
