VP shunt: Alternative pathways can sometimes develop but you might also want to speak with the surgeon about a iiird ventriculocisternostomy, a technique that can sometimes bypass an obstruction.

Hydrocephalus: It is not uncommon to require a ventriculoperitoneal shunt after removal of a brain tumor. There is a possibility of shunt independence after the swelling and debris has resolved. Externalizing the shunt and gradually raising the shunt valve pressure can be performed to check for shunt independence. See your neurosurgeon to determine if you are a candidate for a trial.
