"Phlegm": Can be normal. If it is coming up in larger amounts than typical it is usually due to airway inflammation. And yes, it can very well be due to a viral infection. Time, patience, and a healthy lifestyle (no smoking) will hasten your recovery. Antibiotics will not. If cough persists, see a doc and maybe get an inhaled steroid prescription. These take time to work.
