Hormone changes: Multiple things can cause irregular periods. If you are having spotting at regular intervals between your periods, and you are on birth control pills, it could be that the estrogen dose in the pill is too low for you. Also it is possible that you are not ovulating regularly for reasons such as stress, thyroid problems or other hormone changes. Polyps inside the uterus also cause this problem.
