Not only option: Fist step is therapy and protecting the nerve. If your nerve test shows severe changes then surgery is the only want to stop the progression of the nerve injury. If weakness or clumsiness of the hand is a problem then it will continue to worsen unless the nerve is decompressed. Make sure you are going to an ortho who specializes in the upper extremity. They often are call "hand specialists.".
