See below: Each month ovulation is the rupture of a small cyst or follicle (most of the time mature follicles are at least 2-3 cm). Sometimes larger cyst grows and can also rupture. It isn't that one causes the other.

Ovarian cyst : Ovarian cysts that tend to rupture are fairly large in size and there is a significant amount of pain associated with that . Note that there can be a small amount of pain associated with ovulation and that is called "mittelschmerz".

Occasionally happens: After ovulation a corpus luteum cyst forms. Occasionally that cyst may rupture and cause discomfort. Usually this is not a big problem though.

Possible: Intercourse with deep penetration causes the uterus to move. The ovary is attached to the uterus by the ovarian ligament, so it is possible.

Nature or injury etc: Most common follicular cysts of menstrual cycle, constantly formed and disappear (rupture) , carpus luteal cysts may be associated with small bleeding, chocolate cysts caused by endometriosis may rupture due to pressure caused by fluid accumulation of fluid, all are harmless, ( may have thin wall ) except tumor cysts, ( same reason) some times direct trauma like car accident may cause.
