Is it possible for hand to develop atrophy within a week? also, if you have hand atrophy will you have noticeable weakness?

If immobilized: If for a variety of reasons, hand is immobilized over a week, there will be atrophy, but restoration rapidly occurs with hand therapy. Weakness can accompany the atrophy.

Yes, we atrophy fast: Atrophy can occur quite rapidly with immobilization or nerve injury. Disuse atrophy (from immobilization or injury) is definitely the most common. Even with appropriate exercise, anticipate that it will take twice as long to resolve as it takes to occur. You may or may not have weakness as we have a large reserve normally.
