Triggers: We all have receptors in our airways that are triggered by irritants, cold air, cigarette smoke, inhaled dusts which can cause airway or bronchospasms. Also, often times airways can spasm after exercise, which is known as exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. If you have allergies, your airways could also be more reactive to those particular allergies.
