Lab work: Your physician will check your serum ferritin. Serum iron, iron binding, and transferrin saturation are for screening. If the serum ferritin is way up and you have symptoms / signs / labs to support the diagnosis, a biopsy and/or genetic study may be in the offing. Of all the common deadly diseases, hemochromatosis is the easiest to manage and you can expect good health with treatment.
