Yes-- only if needed: It is possible to use oral antibiotics in a young baby. However, they should only be used if the child has a bacterial infection. Many infections in young children (such as common colds) are viral in etiology and will get better on their own without antibiotics. Using antibiotics when not medically appropriate can cause them to be less effective when your child gets very sick & really needs them.
