Can an excess of vitamin c supplements be harmful to children?

No: Vitamin c is a water soluble vitamin. Taking an excess will just result in the vitamin c passing into the urine. However megadoses (> 10 times the rda) can cause side effects such as abdominal pain or diarrhea. For 0-6 months rda (recommended daily amount) is 40mg; for 6-12 months rda is 50mg. The rda is 15mg for age 1-3 years, 25mg for 4-8 years, 45mg 9-13, 65-75mg for 14 to 18 year olds.
