Absolutely: Although many more children with normal or superior intelligence now are being diagnosed than used to be the case, a large number of children have both autism and mental retardation, and each increases the complications of the other.

Yes: Current studies show 40-68% of children with autistic disorder have intellectual disability, iq <70. 25% have epilepsy (more kids with ad & id). Adhd in 40-70% (of all).Learning disabilities & executive function ( taking in, organizing, processing & acting on information)deficits are common in those with avg.-above avg. Iq, 90 or >. Lack of theory of mind in all. Tics, 9%. Sleep problems, 50-70%.
