Asthma or other: Allergies that result in difficulty breathing may be asthma with symptoms of chest tightness, short of breath, cough and/or wheeze. There are other possibilities that result in difficulty breathing such as vocal cord dysfunction, foreign body, anxiety, infection (pneumonia) and others. An allergist can assist in both allergies and helping to determine the cause of difficulty breathing.
