Depends: There are many kinds of "lymph node cancers" (lymphoma). Hodkin's vs. Non hodkin's, aggressive vs slow growing. Some are terribly aggressive, can cause death in weeks, and respond poorly to treatment whereas others can be present (often unnoticed) for years and cause no problems even without treatment.
