Quadrant perio: The deep scaling and root planing procedure might be broken down into 4 quadrants. For example the upper right side of the mouth is one quadrant. The goal is to remove the buildup of plaque and its more hardened form, tartar, through periodontal scaling and root planing performed by quadrant. This allows for only a part of the mouth being numb and makes for more comfort.
