Yes not too much: Insertion is mildly painful not heavy pain pain lasts few minutes only.

Shouldn't be: Most iuds are placed without local anesthesia, but a local block can be used if you are concerned with pain. Most women feel cramping and this responds well to advil or tylenol (acetaminophen). It's a good idea to take these prior to the insertion. You should feel fine within a couple of hours post insertion. Let your doc know if pain persists or worsens.
