Only if infection: An iud is unlikely to cause fertility issues unless you had an infection like pelvic inflammatory disease (pid) or pelvic actinomycosis, a bacterial infection. Actinomycosis affects up to 10% of iud users but does not always cause problems. If you are not conceiving easily see a reproductive endocrinology / infertility (rei) md for testing - you can try up to a year if under 35, 6 months if 35-39.

Very unlikely: Iud does not cause infertiliy. However, infection involving the fallopian tubes with or without the iud in place may cause infertiity. It is also important to remember that iud does not prevent stds.
